Good morning. Imagine a large public corporation which has been in business for longer than 150 years. It has already gone through massive transformations (just imagine the invention and introduction of electricity ...) given environmental changes and adaptions to various other factors. Such transformations were always about loooooong running changes. And now comes the most critical part of the story .....

...the company DNA emerged from a military and command and control context. It is a hierarchical system's archetype which boils down to the necessity of having full control around operation of "mission critical stuff" - meaning: If anything goes wrong - human lives are at risk. Viewing that in perspective of CYNEFIN framework (credits to Dave Snowden) there is a big portion of the business broken down into simple and complicated domains in form of written work instructions, rules and policies...

Worked well for the last 150 years ...

BUT guess WHAT ;-)

Environment is changing dramatically and pace increases exponentially. Today it is called "digitalization et.al", tomorrow it will be about "cognitization" and the day after tomorrow we all have no clue how the world will look like with all the AI in place (and how the buzzwords and acronyms are called ;-).

And that is a clear cut case to use Dave Gray's | Connected Company as metaphor WHY organizations and systems have to change and transform.
