day16 - fun with mosquitos at the dunes of torre dei corsari

So it's time to leave is aruttas campsite … it was really a very nice spot and I can highly recommend it .. the open space, the cute bar and restaurant and the very close pebbles beach ! Awesome ! Next stop was in Mandriola which is famous for the flamingos which are staying there over winter … and believe it or not I spotted some of the Rosa guys in the far distance in a “brackwasser” sea :-) 🦩🦩 and it was the first time that I regret to not have taken my big white 800mm telezoom lens with me … so I just have a very bad zoomed picture of them ….

Time to look for a mini market in this very small village which was roughly half an hour away from is arrutas. Found one in the main Street and it was a real easier to shop there … very small but very local products

They even had wine barrels in the shop where you could tap your bottles … never seen this before

As I did not have my big canister with me it was no option to get a sample of that local wine …. so I packed my stuff and continued my ride southwards …. and after a while Google maps routed my to a very interesting spot - ponte dei pescatori - a bridge which connects 2 parts of the island BUT with explicit signs on the end that there is a driving ban !! Another RV driver was standing there and she told me that she is watching the scenery here for some time and that every Italian is just driving over the bridge ….

Ok ok … so there was a bridge, the way back and an alternative route would take another 2 hours, there is only one move ;-) Italian style !!! I told her that I will drive over the bridge and she can follow me … another constraint was that there was only space for one car … no chance if someone crosses from the other side … and it was quite long … at least 500 meter … So we just did it and successfully ended up on the other side 👍

And the ride continued with a short stop at some cute beach where I had to jump into the water as it just was far too hot in the van …

After that refreshment I continued my ride towards Torre del Corsair which was written in my Sardinia book as a nice spot and a ace to stay over night. Arrived there with a felt temperature of 40 degrees and parked in the end of a beach parking space behind some dunes. Nice !!

The view from behind the dunes was also quite impressive … a wide and empty beach

So best time to chill and 3xplore the surroundings with my bike. Soon found a beach bar where I drank a cold Ichnusa and returned tired back to the van. Time to prepare for the night - I did not know yet that it's gonna be a short and non-sleepy one 😂😂😜…

It was a mosquito massacre night !! In the bushes behind the dunes must have been millions of those beasts and I made a BIG mistake not to timely close all doors from the van … so I had ALL of them in the van !!! lol … that was a buzzing !!! couldn't sleep at all and decided to spend the night outside watching the (marvellous) star sky …. being eaten by the mosquitos … lucky me I had some anti mosquito spray left …
