day19 - lighthousing on isola de St. Pietro
Today I was an extreme early bird … woke up at 0500 as I slept toooo much yesterday 😂😂 meaning it was the right time for a night coffee session with my campinggaz grill … look at the beautiful colours ….
Having drunken at least 2 coffees and some hours later I decided to continue my ride to the south. Next target was isola del San Pietro which is a small island reachable with a ferry from portoscuso. So usual packing and mounting of my stuff and ready to rumble - on the road again … paid just 20 EUR for the 2 nights at the campsite !! This I call a cheap vacation !!!
Again an astonishing coast road led me through beautiful terrain. I passed Porto Flavio and made a break at a panoramic parking spot to take some pictures. In the background you can see the famous rock of pan di zucchero. And immediately after that picture a group of (I think) 8 mini Cooper's came across and also made a stop here … some sort of Sardinian Mini Group was on tour …had a short chat with them and got comments for my van …. and they were gone as fast as they arrived 😂😂
Headed further down towards portoscuso, found the port and saw a ferry close to “take off” … but WHERE THE HELL do I get the tickets ???
Looked further around and found some sort of shabby building with a small sign “biglietti” …. bought and hurried on the ship and 10 seconds after I was on it closed its doors and shipped away !!! We arrived 30 minutes later in Carloforte which is a beautiful small town with liguarian influences ….
Haha and my body / stomach gave me a clear instruction to go out and search some restaurant to eat some meat. And I found one which had looooots of meat for me … and a small bottle of wine and a nice insalata mista … gorgeous and buon appettito !!!
Having eaten all that protein I went for an even bigger ice-cream and had a short chat with the ice lady about where to stay overnight today. There is no campsite on this island … she told me that there is a lighthouse on the Westside of the island where the street ends and where a big panoramic parking space is. It is OK to stay there over night especially in pre-season time.
Perfect spot to park and take a short explorative walk on the panormaic path there … it led down to the coast where it was extremely hot and tempting to jump into the water .. but it was too rocky and too high sea in order to get back out of the water … too risky unfortunately … so I had to ascend the stairs without a refreshment
Up again I first had to drink a cold Ichnusa …. and was visited by one of the many cats apparently living out there …
Not to forget to show the lighthouse ….
And I now also know why the island is also called “island of wind” as the wind got stronger and stronger …. and I can tell during the night it REALLY was a tough storm outside which shakes the van and made looots of noises so that my sleep was not soooo good this night …
